The charming coastal town in the west of Cyprus is especially popular with German-speaking emigrants and retirees – with UNESCO heritage, its own airport and a relaxed pace.
Paphos (Greek: Pafos) lies on the south-west coast and combines history, sea and an established international community. The town is roughly divided into the lower Kato Paphos with its harbour, promenade and archaeological park, and the higher Ktima (upper town) with administration, markets and daily life.
Paphos is attractive for emigrants because much comes together here: an own international airport, English-speaking doctors and service providers, an active expat community and – compared with Limassol – more moderate property prices. The surroundings offer mountain villages, wineries and nature reserves such as the Akamas peninsula.
The whole town has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1980 – the Roman mosaics in the archaeological park are famous. A few kilometres away lie the Aphrodite Rocks, the mythical birthplace of the goddess of love. Daily life is relaxed and Mediterranean, with short distances to beaches like Coral Bay and Lara Beach.
