The third-largest Mediterranean island, an EU and euro member, English-speaking and only about four hours' flight from Germany. An overview of the country, people and way of life.
Cyprus lies in the eastern Mediterranean, south of Turkey and west of Syria and Lebanon. At around 9,250 km² it is the third-largest island in the Mediterranean. The Republic of Cyprus has been an EU member since 2004 and uses the euro since 2008.
The island is politically divided: the internationally recognised, Greek-influenced south forms the Republic of Cyprus, while the north has been under Turkish control since 1974. Emigration, company formation and tax topics practically always refer to the EU part in the south.
The official languages are Greek and Turkish, but English is everywhere – in authorities, banks, at doctors and in daily life. This makes settling in unusually easy, even without Greek.

Within the island you almost always travel by car – there is a well-developed motorway network, but left-hand traffic. Internet and mobile coverage are widespread and capable, an important point for online entrepreneurs and digital nomads.
